I went to Kansai Gaidai University in the Osaka area. I had the best time of my life there. It is a great step if you don't speak a lot of Japanese. You can choose to live with a family or stay in the dorm. I stayed in the dorm and left Japan with not only Japanese friends, but friends from all over Europe, Asia, and Africa.

I'm not real sure... I do know that in Germany, that it's now a law to say that the Holocaust DID happen. So I'm sure they do teach it.
2 :
I've never lived in Germany so I really have no idea, but I hear that they do teach it, and do so very factually. It's probably similar to American schools teaching about slavery.
3 :
I have escorted numerous Japanese exchange students through the Admiral Nimitz Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas and the response is usually, "I had no idea!" More than one student has commented that, "Every one in Japan should visit here." Which is to say, they didn't get much about WWII in their history classes.

As a HS exchange student in Japan, how much money do you think I'd need a day for a train to and from school

As a HS exchange student in Japan, how much money do you think I'd need a day for a train to and from school?
I just want an estimation so I know how much to bring if I go. I know it kinda depends on the distance my host family house is from the school..but i would really appreciate an estimation.. Like what's the cheapest you think it would be? Or the highest cost? If it's close enough I want to walk...but if not then I'd love suggestions. Thanks!

Students and workers in Japan buy "commuter pass 定期券" which is for those who are going the same route everyday. The pass has 1,3 and 6 month version. It enables you to take trains freely between the designated route. If your house is near station A, and the school near station B, you could take trains freely between station A and B with a commuter pass. You could have some discount compared with buying the ticket everyday. It could be 5-15K for 1 month.
2 :
Try to get a second-hand bike. It's much cheaper in total. You can use it for everywhere you want to go too.
3 :
Taylor like you said it depends on where you live and the distance so its really hard to tell, since cost is set apon distance. As a High school student you can get a special student commuter pass that allows you to travel from your home to school for 1, 3 or 6 months unlimited. The pass usually costs has much 50% off of regular prices, so as a student you will be paying pretty cheaper then other people.
4 :
It really depends on the kind of train that you take. If you take the regular electric train it's usually around 5 bucks American for a ticket (That's how much it was when I went on the train) It really depends on how far you go. Also, if you take the bullet train, the "Shinkansen" the ticket would be about 15 bucks American depending on the railway you take.

Can I take out a loan (like a private/personal) loan to pay for my language schooling in Japan

Can I take out a loan (like a private/personal) loan to pay for my language schooling in Japan?
My dad screwed it up so I cannot receive any financial aid or federal loans, so please don't respond with "file for financial aid or fill out the fafsa". Basically I am going to be studying in Japan beginning January for 3 months at a language school and then transferring to a 2 yr language college (also in Japan). The cost of everything (like everything) will come to about $37,000. Is it possible to take out a loan for a language school? I will be going back to college in the US right after that, and finish getting my degree in Japanese and Business. So is it possible to get a loan for a language school (that is working toward my knowledge for my degree {ie japanese}) and deferring the payment til I granduate from college. I read that most are just for actual universities...so it there any that the language school and language college would qualify for?

Sorry, but I know nothing about school loan for study abroad... It's only available for residents in Washington, Montana and Northern Idaho, but... http://www.seattle.us.emb-japan.go.jp/culture/scholarship.htm I don't know you are qualified to apply for it (deadline is coming about in a week), but look at the Japanese embassy or consulate office website in your area (there are 16 consulate offices in USA), and they may have something similar. It seems many scholarship for study abroad in Japan have closed for the 2010 selection, but you'll have chances next year while you study in Japan. I hope you'll be able to find some money sources to start the program.

scholarships.onlinewebshop.net - it provides some tips about applying to US federal and state grants for college students.
