till they learn.

180, 5/days

My personal opinion is there should be a compromise between those two extremes. Schooling 5 days a week from 8am to 5pm year-round with breaks for major holidays would be an acceptable compromise and allow our children more instructional time in the classroom without depriving them of much needed social skills.
4 :
324 point 6453 days out of the year.
5 :
How about 6 days a week, from 8am to 5pm. This way kids get more education and parents don't have to have daycares/afterschools/babysitters. Kids have social lives at school; afterschool can be for family and jobs.

I went to Naganuma Language school. It's pretty well known in the Tokyo area. http://www.globaldaigaku.com/global/en/schoolsearch/detail/1259/index.html It's located right in Shibuya, too. So your commuter pass will be very convenient and there will always be something to do or see. I taught english in Japan as a side job and I made a good amount of money. Living expense is pretty expensive so I don't know if it'll cover all your costs. You can make about 200-300 a week teaching english. It really depends on you, how many you want to schedule back to back. Anyways, please enjoy my blog post about teaching english in Tokyo. http://wanderingabc.blogspot.com/2008/06/tokyo-how-tos-8-start-teaching.html Hope I helped. -WanderingABC

You mean Nihongo ? How do you plan to go there ? You can get a student visa, but school is very expensive. You can only work part time on a student visa. And work is not easy to get.The economy of Japan is not very good at this time. Many young people are out of work, and jobs will always go to a native Japanese first. Sorry, but what you want to do is not possible. You would be better off trying to learn Japanese here.

As for prime school, students have classes usually from 8:30-14:00 or 15:00 (approx). The timetable depends on the schools.
2 :
Usually from 8:30 to 14:00 or a little after 14:00 at Elementary to High School. For Kindergarten, it's about 8:00 to between 12:00 and 15:00 or even a little longer, depends on day of a week. There is a nap time, too.
3 :
around 8 am to 3 pm

How to convince my mom to let me go to Japan with my school

How to convince my mom to let me go to Japan with my school?
My mom is so over protective! Our civics teacher decided we were a good enough class that he chose us to go to another country with. We all chose japan, and i was so extatic about japan. It just sounded so amazing, and since it's with the school it will be very educational. I just can't convince my mom! She says i'll get some disease over there, and that i can't get the money. But i feel i have the determination in me to get that money, even if it means selling crap on ebay, getting a job, wrapping coins. Like i'm so determined, and have all the motive to make this come true, i just don't know how to reasure her i'll be okay. She's a nurse, and is a germ-freak. She thinks I'll get sick and die, but i told her i'm not going to be in her bubble forever! I try'd to get all my family to convince her, but they all are like you'll die, or you'll be the next Natalee Holloway, but this trip is through like one of the most trusted school tour programs out there! How can i convince her? 10 points best answer thanks!

Raise all the money that you can for the trip to show her your determination. If that doesn't work, try getting your teacher to call your Mom and explain to her what the trip is about (if the teacher can't call her, get them to give you the information about the trip so you can show her).

Japan would be one of the safest places in the world if the world would be swapped with flu and other deceases, because its an island surrounded by water and is hard for deseases to get to the island. My mother told me, that every person is checked now at the airport for fever and sickness and they dont let anyone in with fever and/or the person gets immediatly hospitalized. *(so how do you want to get a desease in Japan, if they dont want to let anybody in with symptoms) The general mentality of a japanese is also to keep very clean. Nobody enters a house with shoes on, the kids have to clean their classes after school every day etc.. Healthcare in Japan is topnotch, there is no garbage on the streets, and many people volunteer to clean the streets by themselfs on weekends. I recommend you highly, to visit Japan, learn about the culture and have a very interesting good time. If you skip this chance you will regred it.

It's a shame that she won't let you go to Japan. It will be an amazing experience and you'd probably never want to leave. I went to Japan for as a summer exchange student when I was in high school... ended up coming back for years after graduating. =) It's a fun place. If you are staying in a city in Japan, it will be as modern as the US. Some of the rural areas have more traditional homes but there is still nothing to really worry about. Japanese also tend to be very hospitable to guests so you should be treated well. Try to get information that shows that Japan is safe and modern, then show your mother that it will be fine.

Japan is one of the safest and CLEANEST countries in the world. Look at the statistics. AIDS= 0.01% compared to 1.1 million people in the US that have it (3.5% of the population). When bird flu and SARS were hyped up, Japan shut down their boarders. If you have swine flu, you are unable to enter Japan. Trust me, you're not going to get sick if you come here. If your mother was a nurse, she'd probably know this. The chances of you even catching a cold from someone sneezing on you are relatively low. Crime in Japan is low as well. You're 40X more likely to get raped in America than Japan. You're 6X more likely to get murdered in America than Japan. Japanese people probably won't even look you in the eye let alone steal anything from you, rape you, or do you any bodily harm. The worst that happens: you make a Japanese angry and he/she will call you a name when you leave to their friend. They can't even insult you to your face.

Ok, You are an American female. Traveling with a school group. Unless you go down to Kabukichou or hang out in the wrong area of Roppongi after dark nothing will happen to you. The school has an obligation to take care of you. Just always wear trousers on the trains.
