My friend Hitomi and are are going to Japan for 6 months and we are still in high school. We were wondering if you have to pay the enrollment fee while entering a Japanese High school.

You're going to have to ask the High School in Japan.

It is my understanding that to go on a student visa not only do you have to have enrollement in a school (and you can't just walk in and enroll..the system there does not work that way) but you will have to provide proof that you have all of your living and school exspenses in an account already. The rules may be different if you are going through an official exchange program...and they can answer all those questions for you. But before making plans, you need to do a lot of research and be sure you have all that you need. Six months is a long time for two teenage girls to spend half way around the world!

You have to go through an exchange program if you want to attend a japanese high school. You should talk to your guidance counselor and do some research. The process may be easier for you because you are a high schooler, but I am pretty sure you cannot work in Japan so your parents have to have adequate proof of funding for your personal expenses. If you are going to Japan for schooling, you have to be enrolled in the school PRIOR to obtaining the student visa, you can't just get one; you have to have proof you are enrolled at a Japanese school to even get the student visa. It's not that simple. Japanese high school don't accept tourists only for several month. And high schools in Japan usually require students to have admission exam. Check out exchange programs if you really wanna join the school. And certain VISA is necessary for 6 month staying in Japan.
